MTG 2026 Set Release Calendar: Every Set Coming This Year

2026 is packed with Magic releases. Here's the complete calendar so you can plan your purchases and deck building.

June 2026: Marvel Super Heroes

• - Prerelease: June 19
• - Release: June 26
• - What: Full Universes Beyond expansion featuring Marvel heroes and villains. Infinity Stones artifact cycle, Avengers, X-Men, and more.
• - Commander impact: Dozens of new legendary creatures, powerful artifacts.

August 2026: The Hobbit

• - Prerelease: August 7
• - Release: August 14
• - What: Return to Middle-earth with Bilbo, Smaug, Thorin, and The One Ring reprint. Special Dragon Hoard Frames and Dwarvish language cards.
• - Commander impact: Dragon tribal, Dwarf tribal, Halfling support. No Commander precons — replaced by co-op adventure.

October 2026: Reality Fracture

• - Prerelease: TBA
• - Release: TBA (October)
• - What: Original Magic storyline in the "Echoverse." Hexhaven University combat-mage school with five allied-color colleges. Features alternate-reality versions of planeswalkers (mono-blue Chandra).
• - Commander impact: Allied-color commanders, potentially strong spellslinger support.

Also in 2026

• - June 1: Secret Lair Mood Swings (45-card deck, $24.99)
• - June: Secret Lair Cats Are the Best Superdrop
• - Various: Additional Secret Lair drops throughout the year

Planning Your Budget

Three major sets in five months (June through October) means a lot of spending if you want everything. Our recommendation:

• Pick your favorite. If you love Marvel, go deep on Super Heroes. If you're a Tolkien fan, save for The Hobbit.
• Buy singles, not sealed. Unless you enjoy drafting, buying individual cards is always more cost-effective.
• Use Tapped Decks to build decks with the new cards and test them before buying. Our proxy service ($0.15/card) lets you playtest a full deck for $15 before investing in the real cards.
• Pre-order carefully. Pre-order prices are often inflated. Wait 2-3 weeks after release for prices to settle unless you need cards for a specific event.
