MTG 2026 Set Release Calendar: Every Set Coming This Year

The complete Magic: The Gathering 2026 release schedule — confirmed dates for The Hobbit, Reality Fracture, and Star Trek, plus what's already out and what's next in 2027.
2026 is a seven-set year for Magic. Here's the full calendar — what's already released and what's still coming — so you can plan your purchases and deck building.
Already Released in 2026
- - Lorwyn Eclipsed (Jan 23) — in-universe return to Lorwyn
- - Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (Mar 6) — Universes Beyond
- - Secrets of Strixhaven (Apr 24) — in-universe
- - Marvel Super Heroes (Jun 26) — Universes Beyond, the first full Marvel expansion
August 14, 2026: The Hobbit
- - Prerelease: August 7–13
- - Release: August 14 (Arena August 11)
- - What: The second Tolkien set and the first legal in Standard. Built around The Hobbit's story with the Adventure mechanic, Dwarf typal support, Thorin Mountain-king, a serialized Smaug, and a One Ring box-topper reprint. Sauron and Tom Bombadil arrive in the Eternal-legal HOC supplement.
- - Commander impact: Dwarf typal, Dragon synergies, Adventure value. No Commander precons this time.
October 2, 2026: Reality Fracture
- - Release: October 2, 2026
- - What: An in-universe set (code FRA) whose shattered reality pulls alternate-reality versions of the Multiverse's planeswalkers into one expansion — Magic's most planeswalker-dense, superfriends-focused set. The Prepared mechanic returns from Strixhaven and the new Exhaust keyword debuts.
- - Commander impact: Superfriends and proliferate get a deep bench of cheap planeswalkers — but the planeswalkers aren't commanders themselves; the set's legendary creatures (Liliana the Faultless, Tinybones Pocket Nuisance, Liliana the Repentant, Titanbones Towering Heart) are the new commanders.
November 13, 2026: Magic: The Gathering | Star Trek
- - Prerelease: November 6–12
- - Release: November 13 (Arena November 10)
- - What: A full Universes Beyond set plus four Commander decks, spanning the Federation, Klingons, and the Borg. New mechanics include Spacecraft & Station, Assimilate, Federation, and Face a Dilemma — plus the first-ever actor-autographed Headliner cards.
- - Commander impact: Four ready-to-play precons (Picard, Spock, Worf, the Borg Queen) and dozens of new legends.

Looking Ahead to 2027
Wizards revealed the 2027 in-universe lineup at MagicCon Amsterdam (July 17–19, 2026): Nauctus, the Sunken Realm — Magic's first fully underwater plane — on February 5, Kamigawa: Titanbreach (a Kamigawa–Ikoria collision) on June 4, and The Return to Zhalfir on October 1. Three Universes Beyond crossovers are also slated for 2027 but remain unannounced. See our MagicCon Amsterdam recap for the details.
Planning Your Budget
Three major releases across August through November means real spending if you want everything. Our recommendation:
- Pick your favorite. Tolkien fan? Save for The Hobbit. Trekkie? Star Trek. Love in-universe lore? Reality Fracture.
- Buy singles, not sealed. Unless you enjoy drafting, individual cards are almost always more cost-effective.
- Use Tapped Decks to build decks with the new cards, and test them in VS AI mode before you buy.
- Pre-order carefully. Pre-order prices are often inflated — wait 2-3 weeks after release for prices to settle unless you need cards for an event.
