MTG Reality Fracture Set Guide: The Echoverse, Hexhaven, and Reflections Explained
Reality Fracture fractures the Multiverse on October 2, 2026. Here's the confirmed setting, the returning Prepare mechanic, reflection cards, and all five Commander precons.
Reality Fracture is the in-universe Magic set that closes out the story arc before the Star Trek crossover, and it's one of the most conceptually ambitious sets in years. Jace has pushed reality to its breaking point, and his alternate Multiverse is fracturing into the real one. Here's everything confirmed.
Release Date
Reality Fracture (set code FRA) releases in paper on October 2, 2026, with digital release on MTG Arena and MTGO a few days earlier on September 29.
The Setting: The Echoverse and Hexhaven
Reality Fracture takes place in the Echoverse — an alternate version of Arcavios (the plane of Strixhaven) where, instead of the familiar magic school, students attend Hexhaven. The set concludes the three-year Metronome Arc, the overarching story that's been building across recent Magic releases.
Hexhaven is organized into five colleges, each tied to a color:
- - Fatehold
- - Theorix
- - Stingerquill
- - Konstrari
- - Vigorbloom
If you enjoyed the mystic-academy flavor of Strixhaven and Secrets of Strixhaven, this is a darker, fractured mirror of that world.
Reflections: Alternate-Reality Characters
The set's signature gimmick is reflections — every booster contains a "reflection," an alternate-color version of a familiar character from the fractured Multiverse. The headline example is Chandra, Chill of Compliance, a cold, controlled reimagining of the normally fiery pyromancer.
Collecting reflections is a major draw of the set, since each one reinterprets a beloved character through the lens of the Echoverse.
Returning Mechanic: Prepare
Prepare, the mechanic first seen in Secrets of Strixhaven, returns in Reality Fracture. It rewards setting up in advance and paying off later — a natural fit for the calculated, academic feel of Hexhaven.
Five Commander Precons
Reality Fracture ships with five mono-color Commander preconstructed decks — one for each color and, thematically, one for each Hexhaven college. That makes it a great on-ramp if you want to start in a single color before branching into multicolor decks.
What It Means for Commander
- - Mono-color players get five fresh precons to build around
- - Spellslinger and value decks benefit from the returning Prepare mechanic
- - Reflection legends add a wave of new alternate-color commanders — perfect for players who love a specific character but want them in different colors
Looking Ahead
Reality Fracture is the last in-universe set of 2026 before Star Trek closes the year. Wizards is expected to reveal the full 2027 lineup at MagicCon Amsterdam (July 17–19, 2026), so keep an eye on our blog for that calendar.
