Marvel: Darkhold Destiny — Everything We Know About MTG's 2027 Mystical Marvel Set

Revealed at New York Comic Con, Marvel: Darkhold Destiny is a Universes Beyond set arriving April 2027 with four Commander decks led by Marvel's mystical heavy-hitters. Here's every confirmed detail so far.
Announced at New York Comic Con on October 9, 2026, Marvel: Darkhold Destiny is the next Marvel crossover for Magic: The Gathering — and it's a different kind of set from the ones that came before. Here's everything confirmed so far, and how it fits into Marvel's growing Magic timeline.
Release date and what it is
Marvel: Darkhold Destiny releases April 9, 2027 — so despite the recent reveal, it is roughly six months out, and only a handful of cards have been previewed. It's a Universes Beyond expansion, and notably the first Marvel Magic set built around an original story with a new character rather than adapting an existing comic arc. The theme is the mystical and mythical corner of the Marvel universe: Doctor Strange, Thor, Hela, Dormammu, and Doom.
This is a reveal-and-roadmap moment, not a launch — expect the real spoiler season closer to early 2027.
The four Commander precons
Darkhold Destiny is planned with four preconstructed Commander decks, each reportedly around $74.99 with roughly 30 new cards apiece. Color identities and face commanders as reported so far:
- - Lords of Hel — Black/Red, led by Hela — tokens and sacrifice.
- - Midnight Sons — White/Black, led by Blade — a lifegain / life-as-a-resource shell.
- - Gods of Asgard — Red/Green/White, led by Thor — a power-matters deck leaning on equipment and "godlike gear."
- - Strange Academy — White/Blue/Black, led by Doctor Strange — spellcasters plus blink and flicker effects.
Decklists are still early, so treat the specific card contents as provisional until Wizards publishes full lists.
Cards previewed so far
Even this far out, a few cards have surfaced officially, hinting at the set's flavor:
- - Hela, Mistress of Darkness (a double-faced card with Dark Tutor) — a Black commander-caliber threat.
- - Magik, Illyana Rasputin (transforming into Darkchild, Demon Uncaged) — a Black/Red build-around.
- - The Darkhold — a legendary artifact "book," the set's titular object.
- - Gargantos, the Endbringer — a Black/Green Elder God Horror from the Commander set.
Expect the mystical theme to lean on tutoring, demons, and life-and-death value — very on-brand for a Darkhold set.
Where it sits in Marvel's Magic timeline
Darkhold Destiny is the third Marvel crossover, and it helps to keep them straight:
- - Marvel's Spider-Man — released September 2025.
- - Marvel Super Heroes — the big June 2026 crossover with four Commander decks (see our Marvel Super Heroes set guide).
- - Marvel: Darkhold Destiny — April 2027, the mystical set covered here.
