MTG Star Trek Set Guide: Release Date, Commander Decks, and Everything Confirmed

Magic: The Gathering | Star Trek boldly arrives November 13, 2026 as a full Universes Beyond set with four Commander decks. Here's every confirmed detail and what it means for EDH.

Magic: The Gathering is going where no crossover has gone before. Magic: The Gathering | Star Trek is a full Universes Beyond expansion arriving late 2026, and it's the biggest sci-fi release the game has ever attempted. Here's everything confirmed so far.

Release Date

Magic: The Gathering | Star Trek releases in tabletop on November 13, 2026, with prerelease events running November 6–12 at local game stores. It lands on MTG Arena a few days earlier, on November 10. It's the final Magic set of 2026.

If you see third-party sites listing a November 20 or "Q1 2027" date, ignore them — Wizards of the Coast's official date is November 13.

What's in the Set

Star Trek is a full premier-style Universes Beyond set — Play Boosters and Collector Boosters you can draft — plus four preconstructed Commander decks. It is not a Secret Lair or a one-off drop. The release also includes a Beam Me Up Bundle, Scene Boxes, a Beginner Box, and Draft Night support.

The Three Factions

The set is built around a conflict between three iconic Star Trek factions:

  • - The Federation / Starfleet — the heroes, spanning multiple series and crews
  • - The Klingons — the warrior culture, led by Worf
  • - The Borg — the villain faction, led by the Borg Queen

New Mechanics

Four new mechanics have been confirmed:

  • - Spacecraft & Station — artifact starships that charge up with counters and can crew up into creatures. Think of them as vehicles with a build-up curve.
  • - Assimilate — the Borg's control-gain mechanic, letting them take over your opponents' creatures. Very on-flavor for the collective.
  • - Federation — an ability word that rewards having a diverse team of non-Borg creature types, pushing "one of everything" Starfleet builds.
  • - Face a Dilemma — a modal, moral-choice mechanic where players pick between outcomes, echoing Star Trek's classic ethical scenarios.

The Four Commander Decks

Every Star Trek Commander deck is led by a legendary captain (or queen):

  • - Federation Fleet — Jeskai (White-Blue-Red), commanded by Jean-Luc Picard
  • - Landing Party — Bant (Green-White-Blue), commanded by Spock
  • - Klingon — Mardu (White-Black-Red), commanded by Worf
  • - We Are The Borg — Esper (White-Blue-Black), commanded by the Borg Queen

For a deeper look at each deck's strategy and upgrade path, see our guide to every Star Trek Commander deck.

Autographed Headliner Cards

For the first time ever, Magic is printing actor-autographed "Headliner" cards — ultra-rare cards signed by the actors themselves, with roughly 250 copies each. William Shatner (Captain Kirk) and Kate Mulgrew (Captain Janeway) are confirmed signers. These will be some of the most sought-after chase cards in Magic history.

Other special treatments include LCARS-frame Surge foils, Klingon Script cards, and Stardate cards.

What It Means for Commander

Star Trek is going to be a goldmine of new legendary creatures. Named characters confirmed so far include Kirk, Spock, Picard, Worf, Janeway, Seven of Nine, the Borg Queen, and Khan — each a potential commander.

Expect the community to gravitate toward:

  • - Borg "Assimilate" control decks that steal the whole table's board
  • - Federation "one of each" typal decks rewarding creature-type diversity
  • - Spacecraft / artifact decks built around the new ship mechanic
  • - Klingon aggro in Mardu colors
