How to Build a Superfriends Commander Deck with Reality Fracture

Reality Fracture finally makes planeswalker-matters a real Commander archetype. Here's how to build superfriends around Jace, Multiverse Architect — the Empower engine, proliferate, planeswalker protection, and the deck skeleton to copy.

"Superfriends" — a Commander deck built around a pile of planeswalkers and the payoffs that protect and proliferate them — has always been a fringe archetype held back by a shallow card pool. Reality Fracture changes that. The set is stuffed with cheap, low-loyalty planeswalkers, a whole Empower engine, and a commander that lets you run a 'walker in the command zone. Here's how to build it.

Your Commander: Jace, Multiverse Architect

Start with Jace, Multiverse Architect ({1}{W}{U}{B}{R}) — the single planeswalker in the set that can legally be your commander. From the command zone he draws two and bottoms one each turn, taxes opponents who want to attack your planeswalkers, and can exile your own creature or 'walker to dig another onto the battlefield. That's card advantage, defense for your board, and a toolbox activation all in one, in the exact four colors superfriends wants.

Prefer a legendary *creature* at the helm? Tam, the Possibility ({1}{G}{U}, five-color identity) discounts your planeswalker spells and proliferates loyalty, and Nissa, Leyline Tamer gives you a landfall-value shell. But Jace is the cleanest superfriends captain.

The Empower Engine

Reality Fracture's signature keyword action, Empower, is the glue. "Empower Jace N" puts N loyalty counters on a Jace planeswalker token — and creates that token if you don't have one. The token is a blue Jace with "[−1]: Surveil 1" and "[−3]: Draw a card." Roughly 35 cards empower Jace, so even without hard-casting a single planeswalker you can grow a giant token 'walker that draws you cards every turn.

Key pieces:

  • - The "Way of the ___" enchantment cycle — each enters empowering Jace and grants all your planeswalkers a bonus ability (Way of the Pyromancer adds "[+1]: Add {R}"; Way of the Necromancer puts loyalty on your 'walkers when creatures die; Way of the Cryomancer and Way of the Mind Sculptor add spell-copy and card-draw abilities).
  • - Sanctum Lurker — keeps your planeswalkers alive at 0 loyalty and gives them a drain ability.
  • - Theorist's Proxy / Theorist's Sanctum / Jace's Machinations — cheap ways to keep empowering and to activate loyalty at instant speed.

Proliferate: The Force Multiplier

Every loyalty counter you add can be copied by proliferate. Reality Fracture leans into it, and Tam, the Possibility can proliferate multiple times based on your planeswalker types. A proliferate-heavy build turns each 'walker's ultimate into a "when," not an "if." Round it out with staples like Flux Channeler, Evolution Sage, and Karn's Bastion.

Protect the Planeswalkers

Superfriends loses when the table swings at your 'walkers. Defend them:

  • - Jace, Multiverse Architect already taxes attackers.
  • - Tomik, Orzhov Lawmage limits attackers to one per planeswalker and gives your counter-creatures flying.
  • - Gideon's Memorial pumps your tokens and can shock an attacker.
  • - Add fogs, pillowfort (Ghostly Prison, Propaganda), and cheap board wipes so you're the one dictating combat.

The Deck Skeleton

Build to the standard Commander template, then bias the flex slots toward planeswalkers and Empower:

  • - 1 commander (Jace, Multiverse Architect)
  • - 37–38 lands, four-color fixing heavy (the Turbulent duals, Signets, fetches, rainbow lands)
  • - 10–12 ramp — mana rocks get your four colors online fast
  • - 8–10 removal + 3 board wipes to control the board
  • - 8–12 planeswalkers — the set's cheap Chandra/Ajani/Garruk/Jace variants
  • - 6–8 Empower and "Way of the ___" pieces
  • - 5–6 proliferate enablers
  • - 4–5 planeswalker protection / pillowfort
  • - a couple of win conditions — planeswalker ultimates, The Theorist's -6, or a big Jace token going wide

How You Actually Win

Superfriends grinds: you out-card the table with Jace and proliferate ultimates until an emblem or a giant Jace token closes it. Make sure you have a real win condition — a deck full of value with no finisher just durdles. An ultimate emblem, an army of tokens, or milling out the table (via a huge Jace token) all work.

Let Tapped Decks Assemble It

Four-color superfriends is fiddly to build by hand — the fixing alone is a project. On Tapped Decks you can pick Jace, Multiverse Architect (or any Reality Fracture legend), choose "superfriends" as your theme, set a budget, and get a complete, legal, proliferate-ready 100 in under a minute, then tune any slot. New cards become buildable the moment they hit Scryfall. For the set overview, see the Reality Fracture Set Guide.
