Nethroi, Apex of Death

Nethroi is a graveyard-focused midrange commander that rewards you for filling your graveyard with cheap creatures, then explosively returning them to the battlefield. The core gameplan is to either cast Nethroi normally or (more commonly) mutate it onto a cheap creature you control, triggering its ability to reanimate multiple creatures at once. You'll stock your deck with small utility creatures and value payoffs that work equally well in the graveyard or on the battlefield—think cards that self-mill, creatures with enter-the-battlefield effects, and recursion outlets like sacrifice engines.

Once you've built a graveyard, mutating Nethroi becomes a massive swing: you're suddenly recasting your entire team from the 'yard. From there, you can sacrifice them for value, attack for lethal, or use them to set up future turns. The deathtouch and lifelink on Nethroi itself make it a decent blocker and clock, while the mutate cost gives you flexibility—sometimes you're better off holding up mana for interaction, and Nethroi still functions as a solid on-curve play.

Wins come primarily through combat damage after a big reanimation swing, though aristocrat strategies (Viscera Seer, Zulaport Cutthroat) can grind opponents down with chip damage and sacrifice triggers. The deck rewards smart sequencing and knowing which creatures to send to the graveyard vs. play normally.
