Legendary Creature — Treefolk
Kurbis enters with a number of +1/+1 counters on it equal to the amount of mana spent to cast it. Remove a +1/+1 counter from Kurbis: Prevent all damage that would be dealt this turn to another target creature with a +1/+1 counter on it.
“Big green treefolk that grows with mana spent and protects counter creatures.”
Kurbis is a fun mana sink that rewards you for spending big mana early. The core idea is to cast him for as much mana as possible—think X spells or just ramping into a fat green turn—so he enters the battlefield as a beefy threat. His activated ability then turns him into a protective guardian for your other +1/+1 counter creatures, letting you shield them from removal while they bash in for damage.
The deck should lean into +1/+1 counter synergies with cards that generate counters naturally (like Ozolith, the Shattered Spire or Hardened Scales) and creatures that benefit from them. You'll ramp hard with green's best acceleration, then use Kurbis as both a clock and a damage shield for your other growing threats. The win is straightforward: turn 3–4 you're pushing 10+ power across the board, and opponents have a hard time stopping everything.

Skip pricey tutors like Sylvan Tutor; lean on cheap ramp like Llanowar Elves, Fertile Ground, and Cultivate. Toski, Bearer of Secrets and Ozolith are expensive—use Incremental Growth or Sage of Lat-Nam instead.
