Legendary Creature — Human Wizard
Starting intensity 1 At the beginning of combat on your turn, you may cast a spell with mana value equal to Jarsyl, Dark Age Scion's intensity from your graveyard without paying its mana cost. If you do, Jarsyl intensifies by 1.
“Cast free spells from your graveyard that match your growing intensity each turn.”
Jarsyl is a self-mill engine that rewards you for filling your graveyard while gradually scaling in power. Each turn, you get to cast a free spell from your graveyard matching Jarsyl's current intensity, then bump that intensity up by one. This means turn one you cast a one-mana spell, turn two a two-mana spell, and so on—essentially cheating mana every combat step. The deck wants to load your graveyard early with a mix of efficient spells and value pieces, then leverage Jarsyl's repeatable free casts to generate advantage and pressure.
Build around self-mill effects, cheap cantrips, and impactful spells at every mana value. Cards like Faithless Looting, Vengevine, and Murktide give you payoffs for being in the graveyard, while Guttural Response and other low-cost interaction keep you alive. As intensity climbs, you'll naturally cast bigger payoffs like Fury or Subtlety without paying their cost. The game plan is to grind opponents down with free spells and card advantage until you swing in for lethal or lock them out entirely.
This is a tempo-midrange deck that wants to race early, generate mana advantage in the mid-game, and close out with evasion or overwhelming value. You don't need infinite combos—Jarsyl itself is the engine.

Skip expensive mills like Murktide; use Scrapyard Recombiner and Ledger Shredder instead. Swap Fury for Vexing Shusher or Magus of the Scroll.
