Strategy
D'Vana Tendi is a political, utility-focused commander who rewards patient, interactive play. Her two abilities—untapping permanents and surveilling—slot perfectly into a tempo and graveyard-focused strategy. You're not trying to kill anyone fast; instead, you're managing the board with clever untap effects (reuse mana rocks, untap blockers, reset card-draw engines), while filling your graveyard with resources for flashback, escape, or delve spells. This surveil engine also digs toward key creatures and sorceries, making her a perfect glue for a "draw-go" or midrange shell that wins through incremental advantage and card selection rather than big splashy turns.
The deck leans into Simic's classic identity: ramp, card draw, and tempo tricks. Early game, Tendi untaps your mana dorks or utility lands to accelerate ahead. Mid-game, she surveils to filter your draws and stock your graveyard. Late game, you're ahead on resources and can activate her for {3} repeatedly, cycling through threats until you hit the interaction or finisher you need. Win conditions are typically combat damage off flying/unblockable creatures, or you mill opponents out via surveil-heavy strategies like Jace's Mill effects or reanimation payoffs (Snapdax Apex Predator, Living Death).
