Strategy
Chekov and McCoy is a draw-engine commander that rewards you for loading up +1/+1 counters. Every time you add counters to your legendary pilot-doctor, you get to draw cards—once per turn—turning what might be a minor pump into serious card advantage. This creates a natural synergy with counter-focused strategies: proliferate effects, dedicated +1/+1 counter payoffs, and creatures that naturally grow. Your gameplan is to develop a growing board while staying ahead on cards, then eventually win through combat or reach infinite loops with the right counter-doubling effects.
The deck wants a mix of counter-lords (like Hardened Scales or Doubling Season), creatures that enter with counters or reward counters when they appear, and draw payoffs. You're essentially playing a tempo-midrange deck that draws extra cards when you're already doing your core strategy—stacking +1/+1 counters on your team. In multiplayer, this card advantage engine can quickly take over a game, especially if you untap with a counter-generating engine online.

Budget Build
Skip pricey proliferate staples like Doubling Season; use budget alternatives like Evolution Sage or Contentious Plan, and lean on mana dorks (Llanowar Elves, Hyrax Tower Scout) instead of tutors.
