Smaug the Magnificent is one of the most anticipated cards from The Hobbit set releasing August 14, 2026. While we're waiting for the full spoiler, here's how to build a Dragon tribal Commander deck that's ready to slot Smaug in as soon as he's available.

What We Know About Smaug

The gilded collector version of Smaug will be a chase card exclusive to Collector Boosters. The base version has been revealed with 4/3 stats, which sparked community debate — but Smaug's abilities likely compensate heavily (treasure generation, firebreathing, or hoard mechanics based on the Dragon Hoard Frame treatment).

Building Dragon Tribal Now

You don't need to wait for Smaug to start building. Dragon tribal is already one of Commander's most popular archetypes. Here's the shell:
